2019 was dynamic not only in a meteorological sense, but also in the development of the Bulgarian gliding scene.

After the creation of the new gliding commission in the Bulgarian NAC in February and the first sporting flights in July and August, in September the Bulgarian CAA approved the first EASA DTO’s in the country.

This important step in the development of the sport makes possible the full and complete training of the first Bulgarian glider pilots after many years of inactivity.

For the moment the only place where a complete training cycle for a SPL can be done is Aeroclub “Ludogorie” – Blagoevo (Razgrad region).

In the beginning of September the first SPL course was held in Blagoevo.

The course was lead by the polish instructor Andrjei Zhuk. After some hard training under Andrjei’s watchful eye the first students Todor and Zdravko did their first solo flights and managed to be the first newly trained pilots after a 25 year interruption of the Bulgarian gliding training program. We wish both of them many happy flights and soft landings.
